Victoria welcomed back BattlePong for a second year, and it was a slamming success. Over 25 companies competed for the championship title in an epic 80-person tournament.
On November 17th, tech workers from all over Victoria joined Redbrick for an evening of ping pong in support of World Partnership Walk and the VIATEC Foundation Fund, held at The Victoria Foundation.

Together, with the help of our local Victoria tech community and fellow sponsors, BattlePong raised over $16,000 for its charity partners—beating our record from the inaugural 2019 event.
"The wait for BattlePong 2022 was well worth it, what a night! BattlePong celebrates community, camaraderie, and healthy competition, all for a good cause—it just happens to use ping pong as a platform. On that note, there were some incredible players this year, a huge congratulations to our finalists for serious spin & skill. We hope to see you, and everyone back next year!"
Neil Henderson, CEO of Rebase and BattlePong Committee Member
This year saw more than 200 spectators come out to watch 80 players battle it out for the coveted BattlePong trophy. Local brewery, Whistle Buoy Brewing, was pouring Lob Shot Lager and Ping Pong Pale Ale for thirsty players while the competition was fueled with stacks of pizza.
It was easy to spot the Shift team in the crowd! Their team of players snagged Best Costume with their neon-rainbow coordination, but Megson FitzPatrick and Leap XD still earned honorable mentions.
By the end of the night, the unheard-of 80-player draw had singled out this year’s finalists. Competition was tough, but Tejesh Neroy from AbeBooks took home the Championship trophy. Attila Fritz with Schneider Electric came close behind to take second, and Brady Doland from West Coast Windows took third place.
All that competition was for a great cause. Funds raised from our incredible sponsors and a community of enthusiastic pongers will be donated World Partnership Walk and the VIATEC Foundation Fund, held at The Victoria Foundation.
World Partnership Walk invests in community on a global scale, helping millions of people in Africa and Asia break the cycle of poverty and improve quality of life. The VIATEC Foundation is a Victoria-based foundation that supports food security, education, homelessness, and other local initiatives.
Thank you to our sponsors for their generous support: Riptide Studios, Heart Pharmacy, PBX Engineering, Armon Arani Photography, Megson FitzPatrick Insurance, Yahoo!, Courtside Sports, Acera Insurance, Invoicer.ai, Mixpanel, and Rebase.
And thank you to the 25 teams of players and all our volunteers who made this event a great success. A special thank you to everyone who let us borrow a ping pong table for the night, we had so many games going on that a competition of this size wouldn’t have been possible without you.
Finally, we couldn’t have done it without the amazing response from the Victoria tech community. Thank you to everyone who came out to show support for our players and our charity partners. That’s a wrap on BattlePong 2022. We hope you’re already back in training to prepare for next year’s challenge. See you in 2023!
