We’re incredibly proud to announce that Redbrick has been named one of Canada’s Top Small and Medium Employers for 2021.

This marks the second consecutive year that Redbrick has been named a Top Small and Medium Employer.

In its 8th year, Canada’s Top Small and Medium Employers (SMEs) recognizes the nation’s best workplaces for forward-thinking practices and best-in-class human resources policies.

In the face of challenges brought about by the pandemic, this year’s honourees have responded with agility, building on innovations to best care for their employees and the communities they serve.

Employers are evaluated on a number of criteria, including physical workspace, health and financial benefits, vacation and time off, training and skills development, community involvement, and performance management.

This award places Redbrick alongside the nation’s leading small-and-medium-sized organizations redefining standard human resources policy.

“These companies have proven to be extremely agile,” says Richard Yerema, Managing Editor of the Canada's Top 100 Employers project. “Not only were they able to transition employees to working from home right out of the gate, but many already had policies in place that allowed for flexible work. It was simply a matter of extending existing benefits, such as home office allowances and internet subsidies, to make the full transition.”

SME organizations such as Redbrick reacted to the unique challenges placed upon them by the pandemic with speed and agility. Nearly 80 percent offer paid sick leave, while 65 percent provide employee mental health services.

Redbrick is no exception — the Redbrick Mental Health Program (MHP) offers employees (including co-ops) access to mental health services such as counseling and therapy.

To support the health and safety of our team, we closed our Victoria-based headquarters and Minneapolis office on March 12th, 2020, just one day after COVID-19 was announced a global pandemic. We swiftly adjusted to working from home, providing our team with everything they needed to do their jobs effectively, including monitors, computers, keyboards, and other office equipment.

The last year has been anything but ‘business as usual,’ but we’re taking it in stride. We have an exceptionally talented team, and this award is a testament to the incredible organization we have built together.

What started as a group of people in a quaint red-brick office has grown into a team of over 100 strong, spanning cities, countries, and continents. Through it all, our commitment to our team has stayed true; Redbrickers are the heart of our company, and this award recognizes them.

Congratulations to all of our fellow honourees. The complete list of Top Small and Medium Employers is available on their website and in a special edition of The Globe and Mail published on April 6th. Visit their website here for more information about the award.
